Superintendent Update,

School is ready to start.  The teachers will start this Wednesday and the students on Thursday, August 19 at 7:50 am. 

            Elementary Open House:  Monday, August 16 - 6:00-8:00

            Middle School Open House:  Tuesday, August 17 - 6:00-8:00

            High School Open House:  Wednesday, August 18 - 6:00-8:00

On August 2 we had our last regular Board Meeting.  We covered these topics:

Guests – NOACON representative reported on the Middle School construction project.  The school district architect and mechanical engineer discussed the upgrade to the heat and air system.  A decision was tabled until the next meeting.

NOACON’s pay request was approved.

Expenditures > $5,000.00

1.      Dell Computers - $17,444.16 - Computers for Middle School purchased using State Contract

2.      Edline Software $8,584,50

3.      Middlebrooks Electronic Service - $6,707.34 – variety of projects including heat and air and electrical.

4.      System Chemical - $5,880.85 – general cleaning supplies over three months.   

A Student Accident Insurance company was selected.  It is United Health Care.

Elementary Handbooks changes were adopted.

Contractor Bids were discussed during the meeting.  It was decided to table this issue for further study on how to manage this.

Next year’s annual budget was discussed in preparation for the final version to be presented during the September Board meeting.  We did end the year with an excess over budget of $160,392.78. Several items for next year’s budget were presented.  These included starting a new pre-school class, pay increases for all staff and paying for administrator’s cell phones.

Substitute pay was increased from $55 a day to $65 a day.  This was to meet minimum way requirements and make us competitive with other school districts.  Long term sub pay was raised to $7 a day.

A new Basketball Booster Club was approved by the Board.

Our teachers of the year were recognized by the Board.  They are as follows:

            Elementary School – Mrs Stuart

            Middle School – Mr. Cox and Mr. Knight

            High School – Mrs. Heston

Over the summer the Administrators worked on our Educational Improvement Plan for this school year.  It was presented to the Board and discussed.  This will be presented at our next Parent/Community meeting.

Personnel

A resignation was received from Mrs Bradford – Middle School Science Our new employee is Elementary Teacher – Mrs Loren Brooks of Conway.  She will be working in Grade 3.

A Special Meeting was held Monday night at 6:00 in the Elementary Library.  The following vacancies were filled:

      Middle School Language Arts: Kim Thomas-Walter
